Our Parks

Grove Park–Sunset Mountain is home to three beautiful public parks: E.W. Grove Park, Sunset Park, and the Griffing Rose Garden. GPSMNA plays a key role in caring for these shared spaces — overseeing planting, restoration, maintenance, and community engagement through generous member support.

Learn more about our parks and restoration efforts below.

E.W. Grove Park

In 1909, Edwin Wiley Grove commissioned Chauncey Beadle, then nurseryman at the Biltmore Estate, to design a landscape plan for the E. W. Grove Park. Over a hundred years later, our neighborhood took on the extensive project of restoring Beadle’s vision for the park and making it more accessible and enjoyable for neighbors.

More recent restoration efforts have focused on native plantings and the next phase will be reconnecting the upper and lower sections of the park  — a space rich with mature trees, hidden trails, and unique ecological value.

Sunset Park

Sunset Park has been the focus of community input and early planning efforts to guide future improvements. We’re working with city partners and neighbors to create a long-term vision that supports both environmental care and neighborhood use.

The ravine area remains a challenge. We’ve strategically used goats to clear invasive species and organized volunteer cleanup days, but long-term restoration will require significant infrastructure and funding.

Griffing Rose Garden

Once overgrown and declining, the Rose Garden has been gradually revitalized through careful planting and thoughtful design. Updates have included new roses and native trees, improved pathways, and an irrigated landscape plan. Ongoing enhancements aim to ensure long-term beauty and sustainability.
