2026 Volunteer Weekend

Saturday & Sunday, November 14-15

Join your neighbors for a few hours of weeding, pruning, and tidying before winter. No experience needed, and you don't have to be a member to help.

E.W. Grove Park, the Griffing Rose Garden, Sunset Park, and our 22 traffic islands look the way they do because neighbors take care of them. GPSMNA funds their landscaping through member dues and donations, and volunteer days are how neighbors pitch in directly.

Pick what suits you

  • Easy, no experience needed: Weeding, edging beds, and clearing grass from the mulch rings around the Rose Garden trees. Good for families and first-timers.

  • Pruning and shaping: Trimming the nandinas and abelias in E.W. Grove Park and shaping the shrubs around the Rose Garden magnolia.

  • Small tree work: Limbing up two dogwoods on the Gertrude side of E.W. Grove Park. Best for someone comfortable working through shrubs with loppers and a hand saw.

Can't make it that weekend?

Adopt a task you can do on your own schedule, and we'll follow up with details.

  • Traffic islands: Trim abelias, pull sedge, clear dead limbs, or divide daylilies at Gertrude & Edwin and Macon & Howland.

  • Litter pickup: Walk Macon Avenue or Charlotte Street as part of the City's Adopt-A-Street program. Vests, gloves, grabbers, and bags provided.

Good to know

  • Wear long sleeves, long pants, closed-toe shoes, and work gloves. Poison ivy grows in parts of our parks.

  • Bring hand pruners, loppers, or a flat spade if you have them. Label your tools with your name.

  • Kids are welcome with an adult.
